Astoria, OR – The Astoria Public Library revealed six new and restored artworks as part of its renovation, each celebrating the community’s identity and connection to place.
Local muralist Jo Brown contributed her piece ESSE, a continuation of her nature-inspired work seen across Astoria. Artists Allison McClay and Rodolfo Serna collaborated on a mural influenced by Indigenous weaving patterns and the Columbia River’s movement, and also designed the wallpaper for the new Early Childhood Learning Wall.
In the Children’s Reading Area, a commissioned piece by Laura Janes depicts animals reading by the Columbia River, while Adam McIsaac’s carved wood panel blends Native imagery with local flora. Dorothy Danielson’s pre-renovation mural, Goin’ to the Library, was preserved to link the library’s past and future.
A forthcoming two-panel mural by Tony Johnson, Adam McIsaac, and Armiran White of the Chinook Indian Nation will honor cultural heritage and connection to place.
Residents are invited to celebrate the artists and explore the renovated library during its Grand Reopening on Saturday, Oct. 25, from 1 to 4 p.m.
