Astoria, OR – In a time of growing concern regarding the protection of student information, local education leaders have reiterated their commitment to ensuring the privacy and safety of students in their districts.
John Noss, the superintendent of an unnamed school district, spoke out about the district’s rigorous practices aimed at safeguarding student data. “We wouldn’t share that information even if we had it, and our schools continue to be a place where students can feel secure,” Noss stated. He emphasized that the district has implemented policies to protect sensitive information, particularly in light of heightened concerns over external access to student data.
Springfield Public Schools Director of Communications and Community Engagement, Brian Richardson, echoed similar sentiments, reinforcing the district’s dedication to student privacy. “We have state law and District policies, procedures, and practices that provide guidance on achieving educational equity, protecting student privacy, and prioritizing the well-being of our students, including immigrant community members,” Richardson said. He assured parents that the district follows strict protocols to uphold these priorities.
As families remain concerned in this period of uncertainty, Noss urged parents to stay vigilant and monitor school-related communications. “We sent out some information to families a week or two ago that included some of our practices and some of our district policies that have been adapted by our school board,” Noss explained. “We will continue to communicate with families and staff because we know things are still going to change.”
Both districts are committed to keeping parents informed as new information becomes available. Noss emphasized the importance of transparency in these challenging times, ensuring that families have access to up-to-date details on district policies and practices.
As these school districts navigate the complexities of ensuring student privacy and safety, parents are urged to remain engaged and informed through ongoing communications from their respective districts.
